Snickers Workwear eng 1
Hello Louise! Is workwear really that important?
Without a doubt, we believe great workwear makes a huge difference during a craftsman’s day. The choice of right workwear greatly affects work performance, how you feel and your health at work. Our goal is always to make workwear that enhances your day, makes you feel better, work better and look good. What would you say really sets you apart in the way you develop clothes? We have always devoted an enormous amount of time and considerable resources to the development phase. We have never been afraid to add new features even if it would entail a more complicated production process. For instance, we’ve gone from about 20 to 60 pattern pieces in our trousers to ensure the best possible comfort and ease of movement. The stitching work takes twice as long as for a low-price pair of trousers and requires the manufacturer to deliver to exacting standards. We know that everyone will benefit in the long run. But is there such a big difference between the various brands? All too often we see garments whose design leaves much to be desired. This is usually because a simpler method of production, in other words the cheapest method, has been chosen. That is not optimal for the garment or the body, which is a three-dimensional form requiring advanced solutions in the production process Why choose a pair of Snickers Workwear trousers rather than a low-price brand? A pair of work trousers that costs between 25 and 30 euro will be worn out in no time. You’d get through three or four pairs of trousers at that price in the same time that one pair of Snickers trousers lasts. So what you spend on several cheap pairs of trousers is the same as what our trousers cost on average. Your body has probably had to put up with more wear and tear, however, and you’ve definitely left a larger carbon footprint. Tell us about your test pilots? All our development work starts and finishes with the end users. Just like in Matti’s day. It is the only way of ensuring that the product works and fulfils its purpose. We have test pilots across the whole of Europe. Trade professionals whom we regularly interview about their needs and wishes. We work with the pilots to test the performance, comfort, safety, quality and strength of our products. Louise Falcone Borg Product Development Manager How long do your tests last? Obviously that depends on the product. Extensive testing was carried out when we were creating our 6-series range. A total of 50 electricians, plumbers, carpenters, floor layers and other trade professionals took part as test pilots. All in all, they tested more than 200 different pairs of trousers. The performance, comfort, durability and protective qualities of the workwear depend greatly on the material. Design & product development principles. Never compromise on quality. Quality is the best investment for your wallet and the environment. Keep testing. Involve end users from beginning to end. New techniques and solutions must always stem from functionality and be thoroughly tested. Good workwear works with you, not against you. Ergonomics, working comfort, safety and protection are crucial. The sum is always greater than the parts. Choice of textiles, garment construction, surface and edge abrasion, colorfastness, production techniques to name a few. All must work together. 99
