le dance art, reaching a broad audience. Maria Naidu’s primary tool is movement, but she also uses other art forms, often in collaboration with other artists, to find ways of expression that best communicate her ideas. Her choreography is characterized by a textural multiplicity combined with theatrical details. The Malmö-based choreographer and dancer, of Swedish and Indian heritage, grew up in Sweden but became an adult in New York City. In The Life and Times of Ms Karen Henderson, she was inspired by experiences and prejudices she herself has encountered, as well as those of others. A vibrant firework packed with large doses of ironic humour, ambiguity and quite a bit of dance. The multifaceted, 50-minute solo show ponders questions of cultural identity and ethnic belonging, as well as some curiously held stereotypical notions of dance as a profession.
