VIRPI PAHKINEN Choreographer and dancer Virpi Pah
kinen’s works are full of secrets; she can be a warrior of the spirit, a spectral gardener, or a shaman in metamorphosis. She offers dance as an incantation and creates a meditative atmosphere with her original choreography. She is well known for her stunningly chiselled shapes and almost otherworldly moves. Virpi Pahkinen has toured over 45 countries and garnered widespread acclaim for her work. She has won multiple awards, including the Cullberg Prize, the Carina Ari Gold Medal, Litteris et Artibus, and the 1st Choreography prize in Stuttgart. She has created commissioned works for companies such as Skånes Dansteater and the Finnish National Opera Ballet, and has also appeared in dance films for wide screen and TV. In spring 2013, she released her literary debut Ormbäraren (“Serpent Holder”). Emelie Bergbohm | emelie@bohmbohmroom.com | www.pahkinen.com Photo: Mattias Lindbäck.
