Kulturbolaget Exhibitions The Man With The Blue Face Moderna Museet has reopened and among their comeback repertoire we find The Man With The Blue Face. An exhibition highlighting Moderna Museet’s rich collection presenting seminal artists who contributed to the dynamic regeneration of art in the first decades of the 20th century. This exhibition includes key works by names like Edvard Munch, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Helene José Leonilson Geração 80, or Generation 80, was a Brazilian art movement as colorful as it was firmly critical of society. One of the most significant names of the movement was José Leonilson and through Drawn 1975-1993, his first big retrospective exhibition in Europe, we now have the opportunity to experience the expressive style of art at Malmö Konsthall. The retrospective at Malmö Konsthall presents a broad range of mediums and styles, his eclectic subjectivism and an emblematic Schjerfbeck, Vera Nilsson, Wassily Kandinsky, Henri Matisse, Tora Vega Holmström and many more. The featured artists all share an experimental approach to the potential of colour, lines and composition to express different moods, emotions and existential thoughts. Naturalistic depiction did no longer feel sufficient; instead, artists wanted to explore the inner dimensions of the mind and reach for a deeper experience of reality. The Man With The Blue Face, on display all through January 2022 visual language, all the way from early paintings to the introspective embroidery of Leonilson’s last years, providing an overview of his entire oeuvre. The exhibition is produced by KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, by curator Krist Gruijthuijsen and shown in Berlin from January 2021. The exhibition in Malmö is a collaboration with Moderna Museet. José Leonilson: Drawn 1975-1993 is on display from 19 June all through 10 October 38
