New Swedish Books 22 Atlantis Atlantis, the mythi
cal island that sank, according to Plato, into the sea, still provides material for the imagination. It serves as a reference point for both a lost utopia and for the dream that there is still something left to discover. Marie Silkeberg has named her new poetry collection after that myth. The narrative of this wide-ranging book oscillates between our planet’s major cities, and between people. A love story between a nameless couple, a ‘you’ who moves from city to city, a constant discussion on the forms freedom takes, on the many sites it can inhabit, on its demands, on dictatorships, democracies, capitalism, alternative social systems. Our world is so incredibly complex, and in order to understand it, we must let text and thought flow between the world’s places and their shifting figures.
