NEW SWEDISH BOOKS Eija Hetekivi Olsson MIIRA Nors
tedts förlag Rights: Norstedts förlag Miira Miira is a sixteen year-old girl. Miira is also the title of Eija Hetekivi Olsson’s new novel. Eija Hetekivi Olsson’s debut novel No Child’s Land was published in 2012. The Miira of that first book is still wild, strong, stubborn and smart. Her parents are Finnish immigrants and the family lives in the Gothenburg suburbs. Things are tense at home, but she is driven and no one can hinder her in her will to get on and do something with her life. With Eija Hetekivi Olsson’s 8 vivid, intense language, and her eye for social and class relations, the novel is something of a modern day working class tale. The intensity and drive of No Child’s Land is undiminished as we follow her further in Miira – she is a young woman at the start of her life, but with rare life experience. Photo: Jerker Andersson
