ROADMAP MAKING THE CUT Michael McDermott The Inte
rnational Photography Exhibition, hosted by the prestigious Royal Photographic Society, is one of the most august out there. Held almost every year since the since the Society was established in 1854, it can boast of being the longest running exhibition of its kind in the world, including pioneers such as Edward Steichen and Julia Margaret Cameron in its selections. IPE 163 has shortlisted 279 photographers and 848 images from international photographers in 50 countries. Anonymously selected, it includes two Irish names also. ‘Camper at the Seaside’ is the work of Cork-based David Creedon, contrasting the colourful accoutrements of a family holiday against the subdued colour palette of the camper and skyline. Shane Hynan’s ‘Beneath / Beofhód’ is his on-going project examining the degraded and heavily industrialised raised peat bogs of central rural Ireland, and the communities tied to them. The category award winners will be announced in November. rps.org/ipe163 davidcreedon.com life-framer.com/photographer/shane-hynan TOTES AMAZING, AMAZING TOTES… Freelance illustrator Ross Carvill is knocking out some seriously desirable one-off tote bags featuring an assortment of fun, friendly and colourful animals. 100% cotton and ethically produced, he’s even spinning a fun nod to the Hugo BOSS logo with ROSS. rosscarvill.com/ross-tote-bags 6
