A Bridge Between Muji Morning Trädgården is alrea
dy home to their Naturbaren. And if you’ll forgive this woefully clunky segue, nature is coming to the venue in a different way soon. They’ve announced a new collaboration with Nationalmuseum, that will see paintings from the museum’s collection projected onto the walls of the popular club. The paintings chosen are works of landscape and nature, works that explore how we interact with the natural world around us. Projected up on the columns of Skanstullbron that dominate Trädgården, the idea is that the project will make art accessible to more people by building it into a new environment, and help some of the museum’s treasures reach an audience that might have been in the dark about them before now. “Nationalmuseum is one of Sweden’s most interesting museums, which continually and actively works to breathe life into its connections with an accessibility that fits well with our goals here at Trädgården. With this collaboration, we want to be able to offer the thousands of visitors who come to Trädgården every week a visual experience in the form of world-class art, and hopefully provoke interest, ideas and reflections in our guests that will lead them to further investigate the artistic treasures we have in this country”, says Emma Weinerhall, head of marketing at Trädgården. Trädgården’s collaborations with Nationalmuseum are set to continue, with the venue also acting as the after-party hosts for the opening (on Sep 5) of the museum’s new exhibition 1989 – Kultur och politik. ROADMAP Austin Maloney The Japanese retail outlet Muji, which specialises in slickly-designed clothing and household items, has been present at Åhléns for a while now. But now the brand is stepping things up a notch in terms of ambition, taking over the fourth floor at Åhléns City for what will become their Swedish flagship store, as well as their biggest store in Europe. The new boutique will cover a whopping 1,216 m2, and will include products from all across Muji’s range, with new additions not previously available at Åhléns including furniture, bedding, textiles and lighting, along with services including interior design and styling consultants. New items in the clothing section include Walker Active Wear, designed for sports and outdoor wear, and the new collection One All, designed as a one-size collection to suit all women. The new store is partially crafted from wood taken from a 100-year-old abandoned barn in Dalarna. “We have previously had a little shop-in-shop with selected Muji products at Åhléns City that has always been popular. But with our new flagship store, we believe we can help more Swedes to live a comfortable life with the help of our simple and universal products”, says Ino Ryosuke, CEO at Muji Sweden. Sthlm Street Food sees the city’s best food trucks and street food vendors take over Kungsträdgården. They’ll be offering their best food, and then if you weren’t already convinced about which is the best food truck in Stockholm, there’ll also be the Street Food Awards and Swedish Food Truck Championships to entertain you as well as feed you. Sthlm Street Food, Sep 6-7, Kungsträdgården Last year, in response to the widespread sexual harassment and assault at music festivals and in the wake of #MeToo, the comedian Emma Knyckare started Statement Festival, a ‘man-free’ festival that created a safe and secure environment for women to enjoy a music festival. Statement, held at Bananpiren in Gothenburg, was a big success, with 5,000 visitors a day enjoying the shows and not a single crime recorded during the festival. Now, Knyckare is taking it on tour. Statement Tour will be a series of club nights around the country, sticking to the same woman and non-male only entrance policy as the festival, and it lands in Stockholm at Kraken on September 28. Knyckare says “Every stop will be a one-day festival with unique line-ups of artists, comics and DJs. It feels so cool to take the best bits of the festival and head out on tour with them. Before the festival, the early-bird tickets sold out in minutes, so it will be exciting to see how it goes with the tour”.
