Christmas: Skansen Taking a trip out to Skansen,
ideally after the snow has fallen, is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit, and after a little re-engineering to get things corona-safe they’ll be getting into the seasonal spirit again this year. The park will be getting its Christmas makeover from November 28, and you can take part in Christmas activities, buy traditional gifts or just enjoy the place in its winter clothing. You can also keep an eye open for special events on all the weekends of Advent. Jul på Skansen, from Nov 28 Photo: Sven-Erik Sjöberg. And just in time for Franska Trion’s Christmas tour, which will take the jazz-rock trio to Debaser in December. Their Christmas show is a classic in Gothenburg, with songs from their 2011 album Våra mest älskade julsånger, and they’ll bring it to the capital for two shows in one day on December 3. Franska Trion, Debaser Strand, Dec 3 Exhibition: Peter Celsing Kulturhuset recently enjoyed a renovation, and that renovation gave them some time to think about their own history. And so, one of the things you can enjoy in the newly-renovated building is an exhibition on the architect Peter Celsing, appropriate as Kulturhuset was one of his most famous designs. Celsing won the competition for the design of the new culture building in Stockholm in 1965, and his work has been lighting up Sergels Torg ever since. 2020 would have been his 100th birthday, so you can enjoy an exhibition on his life and career on the first floor of the building he once drew. Gig: Iiris Viljanen Swedish-Finnish poet and pianist Iiris Viljanen captures a special atmosphere in her music and live shows, and her fans will get the chance to visit her very own Christmas world with this performance at Kulturhuset. She’s releasing a new album, En finsk jul, which draws its title from the fact that “it’s uncertain if I’ll be able to have [a Finnish Christmas] this year, thanks to the pandemic”, she says. So that feeling will have to live in her music, and a performance which will hopefully let the audience forget the world’s many troubles for a short while as they get wrapped up in the music.
