2019 Sustainability report 1
SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2019 5 OUR ENVIRONMENTAL WO
RK ACTIVITIES WITH ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT The work to reduce our environmental impact proceeds from the environmental aspects that are identified as crucial. The accounted environmental aspects are linked to the different life-cycle states of the vehicle, as well as functions and activities needed to continue our operation. Our environmental work is therefore focusing on the three stages that we can actively and practically influence: passenger- and commercial vehicle- and truck retailing, performing service - and repair (including full paint- and bodywork) – supporting functions and common activities. Environmentally straining activities within our company is mainly connected to energy consumption, transports and service trips, waste- and hazardous material-management and waste fractions that is not recycled as well as the use of chemicals. The activities contribute to the increasing pollution and is thereby considered as negative environmental impacts. To reduce our environmental impact from these activities we are actively working preventively through the education of our employees as well as with clearly stated and documented routines in our internal guidelines. The calculation of environmental impact can be conducted in numerous ways. Within I.A. Hedin Bil we have chosen the indicator of climate change, that is describe by the so-called greenhouse gasses effect on our climate measured through kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalences, kg CO₂-eq. Our focus is presently the previously stated areas of this sustainability report. We’ve mainly chosen to actively conduct projects and activities concerning energy management and the recycling of materials. Within these areas we’ve already in the short term significantly improved our environmental performance, but we also see the great long-term potential of further improvement. RESULTS • Reduced climate impact by 1,152.4 tonnes of CO₂-eq, corresponding a reduction of 17.7%. • 19.4% - Reduced climate impact reported as kg CO₂-eq /m² total plant area • 92.3% electricity from renewable sources. • Reduced district heating consumption by 2,227.5 MWh. • Reduced electricity consumption by 1,154.1 MWh. • 68.9% material recycled waste. • Rechargeable vehicles increased to 24.8% of our total sales, all brands in total. • The installment of 80 new charging stations. ANALYSIS Our total climate effect, related to the energy consumed, the driving of demo-cars and business trips amounted to 5,369.4 tons of CO2 -eq in 2019. In actual numbers that is equivalent to a 1,152.4 ton, or 17.7% decrease. Related to our total area of operation that is equivalent to a 2.77 kg CO2 -eq/m2 increased use of renewable energy, as well as the 9.0% decrease in use of district heating. Above all else, we see that our systematical efforts within the areas of energy optimization and waste recycling management has contributed to a reduce in climate effect during 2019. At the same time, we are facing challenges in ensuring that our business trips, mainly regarding flying, is reduced compared to previous years. There are reasons to these increases, as the distances to several of our locations excludes all other forms of transport. We can also note that our travel policy was not followed in the extent that was anticipated as we now summarize 2019. TARGETS -eq/m2 100% renewable energy.
