Gig: Amanda Ginsburg Amanda Ginsburg has a name t
hat just sounds like a great jazz singer’s, so it’s a happy coincidence that that’s exactly what she is. With a voice so expressive that she could fit a novel’s meaning into a couple of sentences, she’s been one of the shining stars of the Swedish jazz scene over the past few years, managing to grab a Grammy for Jazz Record Of The Year in both 2019 and 2021. The latter was won for her latest album I det lilla händer det mesta, which will be sure to fuel most of her set for this Södra Teatern show. Amanda Ginsburg, Södra Teatern, Oct 18 Theatre: Gig: Welcome To Sweden In 2015, during the migration crisis, actor Lukas Orwin decided to go to the Greek island of Leros to meet the people risking their lives to try and make it to Europe. There he met two Syrians fleeing the civil war in that country, a young man and a young woman, and the trio, despite their differences of background and religion, formed a bond. This performance tells that story, and the journey that followed it, of travelling through the continent through stormy political winds and on-the-ground dangers, with Orwin’s voice as the audience’s guide. It’s a collaboration between the performing arts collective Teatr Weimar and Malmö’s Teaterhögskolan. Welcome To Sweden, opens Oct 13, Dramaten Pom Poko Norwegian art-poppers Pom Poko have been seen in Stockholm a couple of times before, and it probably would have been more if not for a certain pandemic. But now they have the chance to make up for lost time with a gig in October, and they have a new album, Cheater, to bring with them. Cheater is the band at their best, bursts of colour blended with Lego rhythms and smart, touching lyrics, all powered by their trademark relentless exuberance. Brought to life live, it’s sure to be one hell of a show. Pom Poko, Oct 8, Hus 7 Gig: Squid Brighton band Squid’s music is a bubbling stew of different sounds, with indie rock, shoegaze and krautrock all submerged in the mix. They’re both manic and composed, with an avant garde taste for leaving no creative stone unturned. Their new album Bright Green Field is a must-listen for anyone interested in the mad professor side of indierock, and it’ll come to Stockholm at Melodybox in October, assuming international touring is possible then (many, many fingers crossed).
