ROADMAP Peter Steen-Christensen Culinary answers
Stars du Nord is a gastronomy festival gathering several of the prime names within Nordic cooking, winemaking and food tech all in the same place. The ambition is to showcase the Nordic model of cooking to the rest of the world. ”The culinary world does look north for answers, so now we will deliver them,” says Caroline Thörnholm, CEO and founder of Swede Concept, the festival’s founders. Swede Concept is a “fine dining agency that provides exceptional gourmet experiences”. Which is, of course, exactly what Stars du Nord is supposed to be. For three days running, 25-27 October, there’ll be everything from workshops and master classes to podcasts and test labs all on the subject of great Nordic cooking, with extra emphasis on sustainability. Fogia Fragment Koku Bollo Ribbon Superstars The last year and a half have been rough for restaurants, diners and food reviewers alike. But Michelin stars are still being awarded, although a bit late and in a different manner than usual. As will be no surprise to anyone, Tommy Myllymäki received a star for his new restaurant Aira, while Frantzén kept their three stars, and Gastrologik, Oaxen and Aloë their two stars. In this year’s all digital incarnation of the guide, all the recommendations from the reviewers are live on their website and the free Michelin guide app. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides said of the Nordic restaurant scene, “The quality of the cooking in this part of the world continues to thrill and amaze us, and the creativity and innovation of these new Michelin Stars make them some of the most exciting we have seen.” A week full of creative creations An event dedicated to Swedish design! Stockholm Creative Edition is a new annual independent design week, platforming the best and most progressive in Swedish design, craft and all things related. It’s their first outing, but the aim is to make it an annual event. As the festival put it themselves: ”Sweden has a unique ecosystem of successful design companies of different sizes and specializations. Stockholm Creative Edition will now provide them with the opportunity to create exhibitions and showcase their work in a new, exciting way, one in which the experience aspect takes centre stage.” With the vibrant capital city as a backdrop, showrooms, studios and pop-up spaces will be opening up over the festival’s seven days for both design enthusiasts and industry insiders. All exhibitions are open to the general public, and entrance is free. Stockholm Creative Edition, 23-29 September 6 Photo: Fredrik Hessman
