Exhibition Shane Griffin: Chromatic As light pass
es through defective glass, beams split into colour spectra, causing “diffraction grating.” This visual phenomenon is captured in a series of beautiful chromatic abstractions by the Irish, NYC-based, visual artist and director Shane Griffin. It’s easy to see why he has also licensed his artwork to Apple for their iPhone backgrounds. Besides this, Griffin has directed title sequences for Unbanned: The Legend Of AJ1 (Air Jordans if your street cred is flagging), worked for Nike on creating ‘environment and textual elements’ in support of Kanye West’s Yeezy II (The Red Octobers) as well as creating typography for Travis Scott’s ‘Rap Calendar’. He was also made global creative director of Los York Studios in 2018. Chromatic, his first solo exhibition here, is a collection of highly covetable large scale prints. Atelier Maser until Friday January 17. Open Tuesday to Friday 9am-4.30pm gig Goodbye Vibrations with Terri Hooley Ulster’s Godfather of Punk, Hooley was the founder of the Good Vibrations record shop and label where he unearthed Stiff Little Fingers and The Undertones. Upon playing Teenage Kicks, the legendary John Peel said, “isn’t that the most wonderful record you’ve ever heard? In fact, I’m going to play it again,” making it the first song ever played twice, back-to-back on the BBC. Hooley’s had the autobiographical treatment and cinematic immortalisation in a well-received indie feelgood flick. Now, he’s is on another well-earned lap of honour deciding that 2020 will mark his final one on the decks. “I’d rather go out with a bit of a bang than just fade,” he says, and who are we to disagree.
