atern, one of Stockholm’s longestestablished independent theatre groups, has been around since 1984. The group offers two productions relevant to international contexts. The solo performance Hamlet – A Stand-up has won numerous awards in Sweden and internationally – most recently Best International Show at the world’s biggest monodrama festival in New York in 2013. This densely packed performance encapsulates the entire Hamlet story. Roger Westberg transforms the stage into a swarm of human figures. Out of the shadows of the dead, from nowhere, he brings one character after another to life. The dead and the living alike take their places. That’s What a Princess Does has been highly praised by critics and the press, and has now been performed over 500 times on tour in Sweden. Most fairytale princesses are sweet and fair. Delightful and delicate, they wait for their prince. But that’s not what this princess does. She turns our preconceptions upside down. A sparkling performance, bearing the signature of Ika Nord, with puppetry, masks and splendid costumes.
