A/PARIZAD/باريزاد Teater JaLaDa is a Malmö-based children’s theatre group presenting multilingual performances. When a busker starts singing the song of Parizade from the Arabian Nights, he is interrupted by two children who want to join in. The three of them act out and sing the tale of Parizade, the girl who doesn’t know she’s a princess and tries to find out her origins by capturing three magical things: the talking bird, the singing tree and the golden water. Through the story, the two children examine and process their own issues regarding heritage and identity. Founded in 2013, Teater JaLaDa is run by Rayam Al Jazairi, actor and director, and Vanja Hamidi Isacson, dramatist. The name JaLaDa is a combination of three words: Swedish “ja” (“yes”), Arabic “la” (“no”) and South Slavic/Romanian/ Russian “da” (“yes”).
