roadmap Gig Lauryn Hill The Miseducation of Laury
n Hill was released 20 years ago and it’s not an overstatement to rank it as one of the finest debut albums ever. It still sounds fresh and relevant and as Adele says “an honest representation of love and life”. It was to be the only solo studio record of The Fugees star. It’s also fair to say that this tour has been patchy at times with delays, cancellations and Ms Hill discarding the likes of Santigold and Nas from support slots. You pay your money, you take your chances. 3 Arena, Friday November 30, €72.75 Performance The Wild Dog Rose Concert Glasshouse present Orphée by Jóhann Jóhannsson Fresh from their two night stint in the Douglas Hyde Gallery performing the music of Sufjan Stevens to mark his debut Irish performance there in 2004, Glasshouse return with their tribute to Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson who tragically died this spring. The event will consist of a new arrangement of his acclaimed post-classical 2016 album Orphée, followed by original pieces by five Irish composers responding to his life and work. Unitarian Church, Sunday December 9, €16/€19 4 The death of composer Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin last month saw another light in the firmament of cultural giants being quenched. Wherever he may be, one hopes he’s reflecting on matters with the poet John Montague who left us in 2016. This is a celebratory performance of The Wild Dog Rose, an album which Montague released with poet and close friend Muldoon on Claddagh Records, whose founder Garech de Brún also passed away in 2018. Muldoon will read John’s words alongside uileann piper and tin whistler Paddy Moloney and harpist from The Chieftains. National Concert Hall, Friday December 7, €25
