New Swedish Books 50 Fellowship Programmes Each y
ear, the we arrange fellowship programmes for foreign publishers and translators. The Göteborg Book Fair: We invite both foreign publishers and translators and offer a three-day programme during the book fair, taking place at the end of September, combining organised activities and free time for individual meetings. We arrange talks on the Swedish publishing industry, and on a variety of literary genres, from children’s and YA to non-fiction. The programme also includes round-table discussions with Swedish industry professionals. The participants also have time for meetings with agents at the International Rights Centre, to attend seminars and panel discussions. Usually we select equal numbers of translat ors and publishers, 35 guests all in all, and try to match them as well as possible. The grant covers a contribution towards travel costs, and full hotel accommodation for three nights. The travel grant is SEK 2,500 for travellers from inside Europe and SEK 7,000 for travellers from outside Europe, and is paid out as soon as the application is approved. We take care of the hotel reservations and accommodate all participants in the same hotel. The Göteborg Book Fair fellowship is an excellent opportunity to get an overview of the Swedish and Nordic literary worlds, while connecting with colleagues from all over the globe. The dates for the next fair are 24 – 27 September 2020. Applications will be accepted from 6 February on The Swedish Arts Council homepage (www.kulturradet.se). We look forward to receiving your application by midnight on 2 April 2019. New Fellowship programmes as of 2019! We are offering new fellowship programmes for foreign publishers to learn more about Swedish literature. The Stockholm Fellowship: Three days of talks and individual meetings with Swedish publishers and agents in December. Umeå LittFest: In collaboration with LittFest in northern Sweden, we are giving publishers the opportunity to get to know Swedish writers and meet their publishers. The next LittFest will take place 12 – 14 March 2020. Nordic Publisher Exchange: In June 2019 three Swedish publishers and agents travelled to Rekjavik and three Icelandic publishers visited Stockholm to seek out literary gems from each other’s countries. This programme is set to continue in 2010 with another Nordic country. To keep up to date with information on our fellowships, subscribe to our newsletter! Ra Page from Comma Press, Great Britain, was one of the editors exploring the northern dimension of Swedish nature and literature during the first ever fellowship programme in conjunction with the LittFest in Umeå in March.
