back Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki is one of everyone’s favourite filmmakers, with his charming, humorous but affecting films making his Studio Ghibli world famous and bringing Japanese animated cinema to new places. Now SF Bio are celebrating his legacy with their series Miyazaki X 10, showing ten of his most celebrated films over the next few months at their cinemas in Stockholm. The series kicked off with Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), and My Neighbour Totoro opens on October 27. The series continues with roughly one film a month until April next year. The films will be shown in Japanese with Swedish subtitles, and at SF Bio cinemas all over Stockholm. ROADMAP Austin Maloney Autumn is when Stockholm surrenders to the jazz heads, as Stockholm Jazz Festival fills the city’s venues and clubs. And this year’s edition is set to be the biggest ever, with 184 events spread across 57 venues during the festival’s ten-day span. Highlights of this year’s programme include the genre-blurring Franska Trion, Isabella Lundgren and the music-from-allover event Jazz Across Continents. There will also be a mini, festival-within-a-festival at Teaterstudio Lederman called Festivitazz with Honeywolf, Other, Lisa Ullén and more. “Of course it feels great that the festival is growing and is bigger than ever, but the focus is on presenting a balanced and good programme with Stockholm’s associated jazz community. During Stockholm Jazz Festival, everyone, whether they’re jazz-interested or hearing it for the first time, will find something that will speak to them. We’re presenting both familiar jazz veterans and fresh artists. The emphasis is on jazz, but the festival will also include bordering genres such as blues, funk and hip-hop. Genres that always cross-fertilise with jazz”, says Eric Birath, festival head at Stockholm Jazz Festival. Stockholm Jazz Festival 2018. Oct 12-21, Various Venues. The Bank Hotel, so-called because the building it’s housed in has traditionally been occupied by banks, from Södra Sverige Bank to Handelsbanken, opened its doors to its guests and the public in August. As well as 115 rooms, the hotel will be home to several restaurants and bars. In the former bank entry hall, the restaurant Bonnie’s has recruited Carolina Westerlund, formerly of Nosh & Chow, to run a team that will serve food inspired by Europe’s coastal cities as well as local produce. Bonnie’s will also include a bar with a cocktail menu and wine list by Fredrik Horn, formerly of Oaxen Krog and Frantzén. The hotel also includes two bars, Papillon, with decor inspired by the bank director’s old office, and Sophie’s Bar, an all-day lounge with a relaxed, after-work atmosphere. Bank Hotel’s general manager Patrik Tuomisto says: “Bank Hotel is a hotel that stands out, a meeting place that can offer a completely unique atmosphere and experience for both the hotel’s guests and Stockholmers”. Bank Hotel, Arsenalsgatan 6 Beyond Burger is a product with a lot of hype behind it, with investors like Bill Gates and Leonardo DiCaprio backing the company. The idea is this – a plant-based burger, but one that replicates the taste and texture of meat as much as possible, for those who love the taste of meat but want dietary options without it. After years of research and work, they developed a vegetarian burger that they claim is unlike any other before it. With protein from peas, a red colouring derived from beetroot and a tenderness from coconut soy and potato starch, the Beyond Burger claims to be as close to meat as possible without being meat. As a result the burger has been hyped in the US, and now it’s finally coming to Sweden. Burger chain Phil’s Burger have secured the rights to serve the Beyond Burger in Sweden, and it’s available in their Stockholm outlets on Birger Jarlsgatan and Götgatan, later expanding to their other outlets. Founder Philip Örtegren says “We are unbelievably proud to be the first in Sweden to serve Beyond Burger. At Phil’s Burger, we only want to serve burgers with the best ingredients with regards to taste, quality and the environment. So we obviously want to offer our guests the best plant-based burgers available. This is a really exciting addition to our menu, which you’re going to love regardless of whether you’re vegan or just want to swap out meat a few meals a week”. The Beyond Burger is available with Phil’s Burger’s organic, homebaked buns, mustard, ketchup, onion, cheddar and salted pickles.
