acy and libraries – Visual art and design, museums and exhibitions – Regional cultural activities – Sami and other ethnic minority cultures The Swedish Arts Council is required to incorporate equality, diversity, children’s and youth perspectives in its activities, and to promote international and intercultural exchanges. In awarding grants, Swedish Arts Council relies on the advice of working groups and reference groups made up of qualified subject matter experts in various artistic fields. The Swedish Arts Council is tasked with promoting greater international and intercultural exchange and collaboration across the cultural sphere. We do so by supporting exchanges and collaborations in Sweden and abroad, advocating for a greater cultural dimension to Sweden’s international relationships, promoting the role of culture in strengthening freedom of expression and democratisation, and improving the Arts Council’s own knowledge of international cultural policies and international collaboration. In the performing arts field, the Swedish Arts Council awards grants for international tours by Swedish artists and performances in Sweden by visiting international artists. Practitioners in the fields of dance, drama, musical theatre, opera, circus, performance art and other disciplines are eligible for funding. We also coordinate the Swedish presence at international performing arts fairs, which in some cases takes the form of a shared Nordic stand. Alongside the Swedish Arts Council, the Arts Grants Committee (Konstnärsnämnden) also promotes international collaboration in the performing arts. The Arts Grants Committee awards grants to individual practitioners for international activities. The organisation’s international dance programme helps Swedish choreographers and dancers develop and expand their international presence and provides enhanced opportunities for dance artists living in Sweden to build long-term international relationships. The programme covers scholarships, residencies and collaborative projects in Sweden and abroad.
