roadmap Talk Caitlin Moran Caitlin Moran is quite
an achiever. Her first novel was published by the time she was 15 and she had her own column in the UK Times by 19. Twenty years on and this brash feminist and best-selling author revels in being frank, about almost everything. She’s in town to discuss her latest novel, How To Be Famous, about a young woman making it in a world where men hold all the power. Expect girl power and giggles in full effect. National Concert Hall, Friday September 7, €25 Gig The GZA aka The Genius (Wu-Tang) “Choose the sword, and you will join me/Choose the ball, and you will join your mother… in death/You don’t understand my words, but you must choose/So…come boy, choose life or death” Released on Geffen in 1995, Liquid Swords was GZA’s second solo studio release and the one with most resonance with his fanbase. Lyrically complex, it is simply one of the best hip hop albums of all time. There’s every good reason to choose the sword during this three-night stand. There were only tickets left for Tuesday when we last checked! The Sugar Club, Tuesday August 28, €27.50 Exhibition Roderic O’Connor and The Moderns Described by The Irish Times as “Ireland’s great forgotten painter”, this retrospective showcases O’Connor’s signature expressionist style which is full of bold colours. Many of the pieces have not been displayed until now, perhaps due to his distrust of art dealers. O’Connor was popular amongst the avant garde scene, and surrealist André Breton was known to have bought some of his art. O’Connor’s work will be displayed alongside other well-known artists that were both his friends and collaborators such as Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Armand Seguin, Robert Befan and Cuno Amiet. The National Gallery until October 28 6
