comedy Tony Cantwell’s Live Feed vol. IV Cantwell
is one of the new bloods on the comedy scene honing his skills and growing his fanbase through social media. He’s partial to a good meme or two, releases material on instagram and has created alter-egos such as Your Ma’s Mate and The Dublin Frenchman which have seeded a little cult following leading to sold out shows. He explored a fat kid’s past life and the trials, tribulations and titulations of growing up at the last feed. Sugar Club, Wednesday June 12, €15 Festival pride gig Stereolab We must admit we’ve been somewhat conflicted by Pride of late. The embracing of Queer culture by the mainstream has not been without its pitfalls, most noticeably the piggybacking of it by brands. The parade spectacle has been somewhat diminished by the proliferation of bland buses passing by telling us tech company A is down with equality and film company B wants to flog a forthcoming release. Having Madonna playing from a soundsystem while people in t-shirts dance on the roof of a bus is not the essence of a good Pride. Solution? Brands fund the creation of float spectacles with edge and competition, brands fund community groups and outreach programmes to bring the message and the fun. In other words, brands get out of our faces. Here’s hoping the restoration of its route down the O’Connell Street artery marks the beginning of the return of a flamboyant Pride with a meaningful sense of pride, place and bite. From Parnell Square to Merrion Square, Saturday June 29, 1pm After a near ten-year hiatus, Stereolab have begun a string of seven album reissues, kicking off with 1993’s Transient Random-Noise Bursts and 1994’s Mars Audiac Quintet beefing up the offering with alternate mixes and early demos. They kick off the space pop comeback at Primavera and should embrace some band devotees when they roll into town on the last night of the first leg of their tour. Hint: they might be around for drinks after! Vicar Street, Tuesday June 25, €30.50 A SITE FOR GLAD EYES Introducing our spanking new website, the perfect complement to your inky friend.
