Mora Armatur and FM Mattsson – tap specialists “M
ade in Sweden” Near the small Swedish town of Mora, amidst pure nature and the red wooden houses that characterise the region, you can find one of the most modern tap factories in Europe: FM Mattsson Mora Group, the parent company and the manufacturer of both Swedish premium brands Mora Armatur and FM Mattsson. The history of the company Back in 1867, Frost Mats Mattsson developed the first boiler tap, which formed the basis for manufacturing taps in the region. After internal disputes during the year 1926, one of his sons, Frost Karl Mattsson, started up his own business and that marked the birth of tap manufacturer Mora Armatur. From that day on the two businesses, Mora Armatur and FM Mattsson, became fierce competitors of each other. With their innovative product development and solid quality, they quickly developed into recognised brands in Sweden, the rest of Scandinavia, and across other European markets. After a strategic reorientation in 2002, both manufacturers focused more strongly on the European market. After decades of rivalty this produced a merger of both competitors into the new FM Mattsson Mora Group AB. Since then, the parent company FM Mattsson Mora Group, has worked on the continued development of Mora Armatur and FM Mattsson as tap brands. In Sweden they have a combined market share of approx. 65%, whilst both brands occupy stong market positions in neighbouring Scandinavian markets. With a turnover volume of approximately 140 million Euro, FM Mattsson Mora Group is one of the 10 largest tap manufacturers in Europe. Research and innovation Around the middle of the 1960s, the tap factory was still positioned as a labour-intensive business that had held on to the traditional approach for decades. Today that production method, with all its manual labour, has been consigned to the past. Continuous investments in the production site have produced high levels of automation. Today, production is dominated by one of the most modern foundries in the world, which guarantees the competitive production of advanced tap solutions at a European production site. Quality “Made in Sweden” However, machines cannot do everything. Many production steps are still organised and controlled by people and their technical knowhow and craftsmanship. As in the old days, the philosophy of the company is determined by the highest quality standards. Craftsmanship and a feel for the clients’ needs have produced the excellent reputation of the products and brands of Mora Armatur and FM Mattsson. FM Mattsson was founded in 1865 and 62 years later, Frost Karl incorporated Mora Armatur together with 12 employees. 2
