Destroy all tophats In Stockholm we can’t afford to be afraid of the dark. Our long dark winters would be unbearable. But I’ll tell you about someone who is - The Midnight Society. No, I don’t know them either, but it’s apparently some group of teenagers who gather at midnight to tell scary stories. The TVshow was originally aired on Nickelodeon in the ’90s, and it has recently had a remake for the Netflix generation. In the third episode - with the strongly-worded title “Destroy All Tophats”, a character named Rachel decides - with her friends’ lives at stake - to take charge and end Mr. Tophat’s reign of terror. It seems she wasn’t successful. Mr. Tophat, at least the Swedish music-making version, alive and well, when we met up with him for a chat about his new album This Is Pop, about collaborating with Robyn, about how his artist parents shaped his path in life and the importance of heart when making art. We never mentioned his reign of terror. But we did touch upon the subject of hats. Another thing we had to highlight in this issue was Moderna Museet’s retrospective on photographer Nan Goldin. The famous photographer didn’t really want to become a photographer. She aspired to become a filmmaker. But despite shooting stills rather than moving pictures, she’s undoubtedly been able to tell a story, through her works of art that have been years in the making. This winter’s exhibition at Moderna lets the viewers experience her slideshows in a setting that aims to mimic how she first introduced them to the world. See the article on pages 10 and 11 for more.
