gig gig Julian Lage To many people, he is the gre
atest living guitar player. A child prodigy to the point a documentary regarding his virtuosity was made when he was merely eight years old. Almost thirty years later, Julian Lage has developed into the kind of artist and person to aspire to. Softly spoken, humble, and impossibly adept in his craft. When Foggy Notions announced tickets for this solo performance in Whelans, the show sold out immediately. No stranger to hard graft, the response was simple. Add a second show on the same day. November 15th will see Lage perform twice, at seven in the evening, and the second show beginning at 9.15, barely affording the man time to have a sit down between sets. What is certain is that the evening will showcase why the man is regarded as a once in a lifetime talent. Tickets for the additional performance are selling fast, so the timely acquisition of tickets would be advised. Whelans, 25 Wexford St, Portobello, Dublin 2, D02 H527 November 15th, 7 & 9.15pm Burning Realm Dublin based psychedelic rock outfit Burning Realm released one of this writer’s favourite records of the year in ‘Face The Fire’, a four song extended play of mountainous riffs. skewed mythology and Thin Lizzy inspired twin guitar leads. The followed this up with probably my favourite rock show of the year in the Bello Bar. Collecting members of No Spill Blood, Terrordactyl and Realistic Train, the band infuse their kinetic rock tinged grooves with a punk edge that makes a lot of sense when you consider the band’s pedigree, serving in Dublin punk legends Puget Sound.
