DANCE Thirteen Steps to the Attic Michelle Cahill
presents a multi-layered montage of movement and text performed with a live sound-score and recorded tracks from Thieves of Silence. Exploring intimacy between Him and Her, connected by words on a page and interspersed with moments of tenderness and humour, Thirteen Steps to the Attic examines the known, the unknown, and the invisible desire that was unquestionably real. Smock Alley Theatre, Friday February 8 and Saturday February 9, 7.30pm, €13-€16 THEATRE GIG Microdisney You might need to ask an elder about Microdisney. They were a distinctly Irish slice of the ‘80s – Cork’s answer to Something Happens and Ireland’s answer to Prefab Sprout, or something like that. Formed in Cork, in 1980, by Cathal Coughlan and Sean O’Hagan, Microdisney are best known for their track Town to Town and were signed to both Virgin and Rough Trade. They chronicled the ‘80s as lived in worn denim and grim bedsits, they supported The Fall. Coughlan and O’Hagan went on to form Fatima Mansions and The High Llamas, respectively. Vox magazine vol. 5 in the early eighties stated that “their behaviour is often mistaken as ‘uncool’ amongst the more hip Dublin punter cum/intellectual” Let’s hope they cut the mustard in the capital tonight. Monday February 18, Vicar Street, €46.86 Three performers – a dancer (Philip Connaughton), an actress (Lucy Miller) and a mezzo soprano (Michelle O’Rourke) together with director Louise White – create a playful environment that invites audiences to examine the possibilities around their own personal legacy including the fragility of life, families, humour and love; to play a game of imagination in a warm and supportive encounter with… themselves.
