Mol an Óige… well Liam Hamill is filed under ‘tio
cfaidh’ already but we’re still glad to hear news from the IADT graduate who is currently working for advertising goliath Wieden+Kennedy in NYC. Projects to date include HBO’s It’s OK initiative aimed at normalising conversations about mental health. liamhamill.com IN THE GARDEN Now that the snowdrops have sprung and daffodil season is upon us, most folk who have a green patch turn their minds to green-fingered matters. Children and YA book publisher Little Island have picked up In De Tuin and translated it into In The Garden. The book is the work of Dutch illustrator Noëlle Smit and beautifully observes the plants, fruits, flowers and vegetables as they blossom and wilt through the cycle of the seasons. Aimed at kids from the age of three, it’s an alluring riot of colour and charm. In an increasingly competitive environment, an edge is always being sought and this could be the perfect festival fit too. Another one for a can of Fontaines D.C. ‘Liberty Belle’? “Hello Totally Dublin, My name is Rebecca Fahey. I’m an Irish creative director and photographer that has recently moved to NYC working as a photographer. I’m working on my own personal projects with the LGBT and unique scenes in NYC. And wanted to know if you could write an article about my upcoming work. I would heavily appreciate it, Here are some work samples and my Instagram is icanthearmyeyes Kind regards, Rebecca” rebeccafahey.com WINDTHRILL MALONE BY HIMSELF “We have it, we have to have it and we can’t live without it,” says Brian Masterson about the power of music. Masterson, one of the co-founders of Windmill Lane Studios, was on hand to welcome President Michael D. Higgins to open their new visitor experience. Originally set up in 1978, it moved to its current Art Deco surrounds in 1990, a converted former electrical power station at the tramline depot on Ringsend Road. Besides U2’s long-running association, Windmill has also played host to recordings by Kate Bush, The Rolling Stones, The Cranberries, The Spice Girls, Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Westlife, The Script and Hozier. The studios are also stacked with vintage analogue equipment including the giant Neve VR2 Legend console that dominates Studio One. Tickets €15-22, windmilllanerecording.com “A lot of chic people think that they are an inspiration but it’s the slightly tacky people that I love,” said fashion designer Richard Malone to us, back in the spring of 2015 off the back of his Central Saint Martins graduate show. Five years later and he is truly owning the catwalk regardless of who his muse may be. His 2020 fall show at London Fashion Week was on point, with the clarion call for ethical and sustainable fashion sounding now more than ever. His show notes for his new collection entailed a mission statement outlining the details of his practices with full transparency, right down to the hourly rates (£25 an hour minimum) for the local cutters and tailors he employs. A few days later, he won the International Woolmark Prize, picking up the AU$200,000 grand prize. We’ll let you drop that into xe.com if you must. IG: richardmalone 10 photo: Basil Al-Rawi
