y ODE ON A GRECIAN MENU KREWE CUT The team at Six by Nico Dublin have been conjuring up platefuls of sunshine with a series of evocative six-course menus inspired by destinations and experiences as diverse as Miami, Ibiza, the Amalfi Coast, Hollywood, Ancient Rome and The Circus. Their current offering transports taste buds to Greece and its islands via a flavoursome selection of dishes guaranteed to evoke memories of Dodecanese decadence in days of yore. The Grecian menu includes traditional Moussaka, Sea Bass, Olives, Tzatziki, Meze and Baklava, while their take on the traditional Greek dish Gyros sees Breast of Chicken served with Tomato and Oregano Terrine, Crispy Confit Potato, Roasted Garlic Emulsion and Tempura Pickled Chilli. Promising ‘a taste of sun, sea and simplicity’ the Greek Menu (€50pp) is available with suggested wine pairings (€40pp) until October 9th, with dedicated menus tailored to meet the tastes of vegans and vegetarians also available. Yamos! @sixbynicodublin With a menu born of a fun filled trip to New Orleans and ambitions firmly set on ‘bringing the dirty south to the Northside’, the NOLA inspired fare at Krewe on Capel Street offers a no-holds-barred taste of the Cajun and Creole food culture of New Orleans and Louisiana. An extensive selection of Dirty Fries boasts potatoes cut, then served no less than seven different ways, while their signature offering comes smothered in a decidedly filthy truffle, black garlic and smoked onion mayo, with scallions, crispy onions and parmesan. Their substantial Brunch Menu includes a choice of hearty dishes such as Double Stack Cheese Burgers, Camellia Hash, and Nola Benedict featuring hot fired chicken and waffles, with Killer Po Boy available as a weekly special. The provenance of their food is also proudly displayed, with meat from Hugh Maguire in Ashbourne and Ray Collier in Howth, fish from Doyle’s Fishmongers in Ballycullen and coffee from Dublin 8 suppliers Imbibe. Wash it all down with a bevvie of your choice from a selection of classics such as Mai Tai, Sazerac or French 75. @krewe_dublin IRISH FOOD AND DRINK MONTH WE’RE LOVIN’ With October finally upon us the stage is set for Irish Food and Drink Month, the latest national celebration of Irish food and drink pairings organised by Oisin Davis of Great Irish Beverages. The long-time champion of Irish produced drinks tells us that with Irish produce now taking front and centre stage on most menus, the inspiration behind the new festival lies in a simple premise. “Local food tastes best when enjoyed with local drinks, and Ireland is no exception. Our native drinks pair wonderfully well with Irish meats, fish, farmed produce and cheeses. We want to see those drinks as well loved as the foods they share the same land with”. In addition to working with a number of brands to get the initiative off the ground, Davis recently issued an invitation to bars, restaurants and hotels across the country to get involved by creating their own signature Irish food and drink pairing. To make things even more interesting a public vote on Instagram and Facebook will select the one that diners rate the best. Ultimately of course we’re all the winners, because, as Davis so eloquently puts it, “Getting behind Irish made drinks helps to nurture our entire culinary culture, and it creates and sustains Irish jobs.” Simples! @greatirishbeverages 38 … The limited edition Autumn Taster Box from Keogh’s which comes packed with a selection of six unique flavours including Whiskey Barbeque, Truffle with Real Irish Butter, and Crinkle Cut Guinness and Oyster, all hand cooked on their family farm in North County Dublin. Keoghs.ie BACK TO THE FUTURE: COPPINGER ROW Even before his iconic Coppinger Row restaurant was shuttered for renovation by its landlord last December, Marc Bereen was making no secret of his desire to return to the city centre location where himself and his brother Conor facilitated good times for so many over the years. Following its recent refurb, the premises has now been advertised for rent, and fans of the fabled Mediterranean eatery have been busy sending good vibes to the Bereens as they bid to return to the convivial spot they called home for thirteen years. It is clear that these wise old heads still know more than a thing or two about what’s cooking in Dublin. The past few months have seen them continue to dish up the goods at popular waterside haunt Charlotte Quay, while also opening a neighbourhood restaurant in Rathgar, where chef Dan Hannigan’s palate-pleasing menu has already ensured Orwell Road’s early entry into the Michelin Guide. We wish the brothers all the best in their endeavours to get back to the mothership and secure Coppinger Row for the future. Avanti! @coppingerrow
