Cat People Some people’s fascination for cats nev
er stops to amaze. When Cat Flower People opened its doors in Tapei in 1998 they didn’t know they were releasing a cultural wave, where cat people from around the globe would open cat cafés at a blistering pace. And now, 20 years on, the global cat café craze has reached Stockholm. So everyone who has been longing for coffee and kanelbulle in the company of furry friends can finally exhale. Even if the name isn’t as inspiring as KitTea in San Francisco, La Gatoteca in Madrid, New York’s Meow Parlour or even Catmosphere Café in Thailand, Vasastan’s new Java Whiskers promises to fill a void we all knew needed to be filled. You can’t bring your own, or disturb them when they’re sleeping but for 150 kronor an hour you can expect good company for your afternoon fika from one of the nine cats present. PSC Java Whiskers, Surbrunnsgatan 48, every day 10-18. Mosebacke News at Stureplan The restaurant group Stureplansgruppen never seem to slow down. Now they’ve opened up a brand new outlet, Arnold’s, set to be housed in the old Arnoldshuset (as you might have grasped from the name). On the menu is plenty of French food culture, with inspiration from the US blended in along with an extra helping of fish, shellfish and vegetable options (signature dishes will include Grilled Sea Bass and Papaya Salad). The bar will be packed with signature cocktails, many of them fruit-based, along with a wide range of wines and non-alcoholic options. Plus, the bar will come stocked with non-plastic straws. “When we created Arnold’s, we had power lunches in Beverly Hills, exotic fruit and the Beauty and the Beast on our minds. It’s our vision of past times, when it was a little more of a show to go to a restaurant”, says John Hällsson of Arnold’s. And this year, it won’t be exactly like it used to. Södra Teatern found its way into the hands of new owners last year and is currently going through a refurbishment of the outdoor terrace as well as the interiors. What used to be Mosebacke Etablissement is now Restaurang Mosebacke and new restaurant manager Mikael Bergsten explains the new concept. “I like classic cooking but made with a twist. It shouldn’t be too complicated but may certainly be playful. Our guests will be able to sense that we have fun in the kitchen. On the menu you find Mosebacke’s take on steak tartare as well as several vegetarian and vegan dishes.
