SOTEKANALENS DAG 11-12 JULY The celebration comme
morates the inauguration of the Sotekanalen on July 15th, 1935 – that is, 90 years ago this year! Sotekanalens Dag transforms the harbor area in Hunnebostrand into a market and festival site for all ages. The local community organizations invite you, your family, and friends to a day filled with festivities. Along Strandvägen, a market is set up with artisans, locally produced food, candies, and fun items. At Mellankajen, you can enjoy delicacies from the sea, herring and potatoes, shrimp sandwiches, and more from food trucks. On Södra kajen, there will be bounce houses, obstacle courses, face painting, and a trail cross demonstration. Sneak peek starting July 11th! Just like last year, Viltmat will serve food and drinks in a restaurant tent on Södra kajen already on Friday, July 11th. There will also be musical entertainment. On July 12th, for Kanaldagen, entrances and the market open from 11 AM. The entrance fee to the canal area is 50 SEK, which also functions as a ticket with a chance to win prizes. The proceeds go to local associations. Organizers of Sotekanalens Dag include Hunnebostrands Samhällsförening, Sotefjordens Segelsällskap, Hunnebostrands Judo, the football club HGoIF, and Hunnebostrands Tennis Club. The proceeds will be used to further develop the associations and to create activities for members throughout the year. EVENTS 2025 This is a selection of this year’s events. Distance sailing race with finish in Smögen. June 26th–29th Kalles Kaviar Cup, see separate notice. July 4th–6th Shrimp Race. Exciting and popular folk race at Hogenäsbanan outside Kungshamn, with about 250 participating teams. July 11th–12th Sotekanalens Day 40 Years, Hunnebostrand. A folk festival with food, drink, music, entertainment, and lots of activities. See separate notice. July 15th Summer evening at Badholmarna, Bovallstrand, at 6:00 PM. Entertainment on the outer island with food, singing, and music. July 15th Nanne in the Park – The summer’s big highlight at Hunneboparken! After last year’s success, we’re back with more music, joy, and summer festivities in our beloved Hunneboparken! Nanne Grönvall with band. July 17th–24th, August 2nd Geological walk over granite slabs at Hållö. Meeting point at Hållö ferry’s landing site by Smögenbryggan (fee 125 SEK round trip, children half price). July 11th – August 7th Music entertainment and theater at Stallebrottet, Bohus-Malmön. See separate article. July 28th Kelp safari combined with outdoor cooking on Smögen! Learn practical skills such as sustainable kelp harvesting, preparation, storage, cleaning, and nutritional content. We also talk about why kelp is good for the sea, how a kelp farm works, and other interesting facts. Afterwards, we prepare some tasting samples. Info: www.catxalot.se August 15th–17th Bohusfest Evja. Climbing & Music Festival. A festival that unites climbers and non-climbers through climbing, music, dance, lectures, films, workshops, and good food. August 20th Cultural walk on Hållö. Popular guided tour with Bohuslänguiden Anette Bargel. Hear about the lighthouse crew, Taube, dramatic events, nature, and life on the island, which is a nature reserve. The island offers fantastic bathing spots from cliffs and boasts Bohuslän’s oldest lighthouse. It has stunning nature and is a magnet for birdwatchers in spring and autumn. Exciting geology and giant potholes, open horizon in the west that must be experienced. September 5th–7th Icebug Xperience Westcoast Trail. A three-day trail run event throughout Sotenäs.
