RCRANTZ (ILL.) MY COACH MELODY OPAL RIGHTS: OPAL My Coach Melody Silja’s legs are different lengths. She can’t run or do things in gym like everyone else in the class can. The doctors have operated on her legs a few times. Once she was close to dying. Now there’s a new girl in Silja’s class who she really wants to be friends with. The girl’s called Melody, and the only thing she thinks about is football and football training. How can Silja be with her when she has a limp? She can’t play football. Or can she? Rose Lagercrantz sensitively portrays a child’s wish to be like ‘everyone’ else, but also shows that you’re fine as you are. This is an unusual and interesting football book about friendship, challenging yourself and finding strength in togetherness. Rose Lagercrantz has previously won the August Prize. 43
