WORDS Martina Murray TERRACE BAR AT THE SHELBOURN
E THE CASTLE LOUNGE It’s official – the Terrace Bar is open at The Shelbourne and summer in Dublin has most definitely begun. Kick back, indulge your inner Gatsby and admire the lush secret garden with a stunning new floral installation boasting shades of pink and green. This season also sees The Terrace partnering with Wine Lab to offer wine on tap, a sustainable serving method that guarantees freshness, reduces waste, and significantly lowers their carbon footprint. A quick look at the menu reveals a refreshing selection that includes the likes of Nicolas Idiart Sauvignon Blanc, Espérance Pinot Noir Rosé, and Domus ‘Rosso d’Autore’ Valpolicella, with a nice range of sparkling wines also available. Spirits include Belvedere Grey Goose, classic Tanqueray 10, and our own favourite, the Mediterranean inspired Gin Mare. Swing by, enjoy a bevvie and see what you might fancy to go with it from a delicious menu ranging from oysters and seafood to meat and cheese platters. The bar is open right through until September. TheShelbourne.com We were struck by the gorgeous cover of the latest issue of Tolka, in which the spirit of the Castle Lounge is nicely captured by the genius that is Salvatore of Lucan. Issue Nine of the non-fiction journal features sterling writing by Annie Ernaux, Caelainn Hogan and Kevin Breathnach amongst others, with cover design by freelance book designer Sarah McCoy. Available now for the sum of €12, it makes for the perfect accompaniment to a pint of plain - if not in Grogan’s, most definitely in your local. tolkajournal.org Secrets of our Past, Revealed!
