In the opinion of the writer golf is becoming a popular sport in Sweden among all classes of people and therefore the town of Falkenberg is to be congratulated on the initiative shown in providing a golf course for the pleasure of its inhabitants and holiday visitors. In order to give the greatest amount of pleasure to the greatest number of people a golf course should be situated as near as possible to the centre of population. The site chosen for the course at Falkenberg, 5 minutes by cycle from the centre of the town, leaves nothing to be desired in this respect. The land on which it is proposed to lay out the course is of the original seaside type of golf country, in contour closely resembling the Old G Course at St. Andrews. British championships are always played on seaside courses of this type. The undulating character of the ground, plus the sea breezes, give the golfer a tremendous variety of shot problems to overcome, without the necessity of climbing up and down a lot of steep hills. Therefore a well planned course layed out on land of this description is always highly interesting from the golfing point of view. The sandy character of the soil means good drainage, thus permitting play to take place in spite of a spell of bad weather. Where possible, the architect has attempted in the plan presented, to arrange large fairways within reach of all types of players and where the grass is good quality. Wet spots have been avoided as far as possible. FOTO: TEIJA GÄRTNER
