SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2019 HEALTH & SAFETY VISION
ZERO We have a vision zero regarding work related accidents and take it upon ourselves to provide a healthy and secure working environment for all of our employees, including the necessary information and education required. We are to always maintain a continuous work to identify work hazards and take action to reduce any risks. We are to give all of our employees the possibility to live an active and healthy life to make sure that everyone has the power to work up until retirement age. PREVENTIVE ACTIONS Many of our work teams is exposed to physical risks in their daily work. There are many mechanical and risky elements in the workshop areas that could mean risking crushing risks, musculoskeletal disorders, vibration injuries or injuries when working with electric cars/high tension currents. We are also working with a great deal of chemicals in our workshops that in some cases demands certain safety equipment before handling. Within our car retail and our customer reception there is the possibility of threats and acts of violence as well as a periodically high work pressure. To ensure that our systematical efforts with our working environments are maintained we use clearly stated and well documented routines within our internal guidelines. There is also certain safety routines for high risk tasks and elements of work that includes chemical products. Our self-monitoring regarding work environment and fire is handled and documented in a web-based system, in which we can easily follow up the degree of implementation and the results for individual sites. Our management collaborates with our employees and carries outrisk inventory measures regularly. The employees are also informed and educated in the risks of the occupation and in how these risks can be prevented or avoided. Every coworker is liable for contributing in creating a god work environment. HEALTH NUMBERS Chemical products that is approved is documented in a web-based system, for the administration of chemical products. The system is used to keep track of- and inform users of the properties of the chemical product, and to assist in finding better and less toxic or hazardous chemicals. The substitution of chemical products with unwanted effects on health and environment is handled by Hedin Bils central chemistry council and decisions are documented in protocols and through the substitution module for the system at hand. The introduction of new chemical products are made through an application routine where the chemistry council handles the application and either grants or denies it. The purpose of this is to limit and control the use of chemicals in order to prevent health hazards, fire hazards and other environmental effects. In order for I.A. Hedin Bil to be a safe and secure workplace it is important to quickly fix faults and deficits in the working environment, but also to make the most of constructive suggestions about how the company can be developed and improved as a place of work. All of our coworkers have access to our web-based errand system and is thereby obligated to report deficiencies, incidents and accidents. In addition to the reports of events the system helps us in analysis and follow ups of occurring events, which contributes to our preemptive efforts concerning the work environment within all of the company. Coworkers can be burdened with too much work or experience that they are not given the same rights and possibilities as their colleagues, be subjected to harassments or risk to not be their best self, generally feeling bad or burn out. If we lack in our dedication towards them this is a reality that can make them ill, both mentally and physically SICK NUMBERS The statistics of sick numbers shows that women within the company is sick in a higher extent than men. The company is actively working with the combining of private life and work life to be able to attract the underrepresented gender. The company has well established routines for a pro-active work a higher number of present and healthy coworkers and fewer sick leaves. This is partly made in the form of follow ups where HR checks statistics on an individual level together with local managers every month and draws up activity plans from relevance. Every manager has got a social toolbox to consult for how to obtain a good dialogue, how to make a template for rehabilitation plans and for ceding back to work as well as the support from experts within company healthcare. HR available as support for dialogues and for the shaping of rehabilitation measures. RESULTS • 44 reported work-related accidents, whereof two were severe. • 40 reported incidents, whereof six were severe. • 13 of the errands stated above were reported to the Swedish work environment agency. ANALYSIS One of the challenges of our systematical workplace related work is to increase the willingness to register incidents and work-related accidents and to investigate, analyze and follow up on reported events. Our analysis is that the reported incidents and accidents is still much too few compared to the number of sites and personnel. Vi are continuously informing staff and management personnel about the necessity of this. Everyone has access to the errand system, where incident- and accident reports are made. Vi also collaborate with safety representatives to be perceptive about what’s happening on our sites and to actively increase the number of reported incidents. The reported errands of this year have mainly been individual accidents that resulted in smaller cuts and crushing injuries, injuries from the incorrect use of equipment as well as slip- and tripping accidents. The underlying reasons that we can identify from the reported errands is mainly poor order and tidiness in workshops as well as lacking maintenance of workshop equipment. TARGETS We have a vision zero regarding severe accidents and injuries.
