BRAND NEW RETRO TOP TIPS words Brian McMahon To t
he Editor, Totally Dublin, On a recent visit to my local charity shop I bought a book called ‘Viz Top Tips’, hoping it would help with my household chores. Imagine my surprise when I got home to discover that the tips were not only disappointing, but very dubious too. Take these for example... “PLANNING a kids’ party? Remember to make your cactus plants safe for children by removing all the spines with a pair of tweezers.” “GLUE desiccated coconut to your windows this Christmas for a perfect ‘snow’ effect. Afterwards it can be chiseled off and fried – a perfect treat for the kids” This book is a rip off and my ‘top tip’ is not to buy it. If you or your readers are looking for tips to prepare for the forthcoming festive season then I suggest they read the helpful hints originally published in Irish magazines. Please find enclosed cuttings from a selection of Irish magazines from the 1960s and 1970s – Woman’s Way, Woman’s Choice and Model Housekeeping. These are real tips from real people. Guaranteed to save you time and money, I hope they may be of interest to your readers.
