y A HUNGER FOR HOME - GUZZLE Guzzle is back with issue three and once again it’s going deep. Entitled A Hunger for Home, the latest edition of the beautifully produced food journal explores what ‘home’ really means, through the things we cook, eat and gather around. Readers can look forward to sinking their teeth into essays, artwork and offbeat takes that stretch the theme in all kinds of unexpected directions, as contributors including Sian Conway, Ali Dunworth, Tra My Nguyen Hoang, Chris O’Leary, Stephen Heffernan and Kevin Sheridan traverse their way across the globe, taking in everything from Irish pubs overseas to a writer’s upbringing in Hanoi and a cookbook club in Copenhagen. Speaking about the new edition, Guzzle editor Jane Gleeson says, “Home became a recurring thread in our first two issues, as writers shared intimate stories that represented their sense of place and belonging. Given this topic’s worldwide relevance, it felt like the apt moment to explore it in our third issue. Contributors pushed the theme beyond my expectations, with a satirical recipe inspired by an unstable housing market to an exploration of the bacteria that inhabit our guts.” To mark the launch of issue three, Guzzle decided to host a series of collaborative events in London, Belfast and Dublin, bringing a number of chefs into the mix to translate page to plate, with the Dublin launch party entailing a very cool collaboration with Sam Kindillon and the culinary team at Note. In a world where ideas of place can often feel somewhat slippery, Guzzle makes the case that food might be the closest thing we have to an anchor. Following a seriously tasty debut back in February, chef Tadgh Byrne is hosting a second iteration of Music & Brunch at Críoch Café in The Mermaid this April. The event sees the innovative chef-owner serving up a four-course spin on classic brunch dishes elevated to fine-dining territory, as proceedings get underway with an amuse bouche, followed by a brunch-inspired starter, a tasty main, and a French toast finale that’s worth travelling for. Guests will also be treated to a complimentary mimosa or tea/coffee, as Tadgh gives the low down on each dish and its provenance as you go. With two sittings at 12pm and 2pm, the event on Sun April 19th is accompanied by live music and cosy, welcoming vibes. A lovely way to spend a Spring Sunday afternoon by the sea. @criochbray Word has it that the robots have set up shop in Dublin 11 where they’re busy conjuring up flat whites and adding some futuristic flair to the local neighbourhood. In the first rollout of its kind in this neck of the woods, last month saw the launch of Juice & Delicious, a fully robotic coffee shop located in Charlestown Shopping Centre. Boasting maximum sci-fi energy minus on-site staff, we’re told that this next-gen concept serves up fully automated, specialty coffee at the tap of a screen, combining precision engineering with beans from roasters Cloud Picker Coffee. Expect everything from your classic Americano to more creative, modern takes, whipped up by a robotic system designed for speed and consistency. Early indications suggest that the concept is successfully marrying convenience with decent enough coffee credentials, but we can’t help but wonder – do we really want our baristas to be bots? juiceanddelicious.ie TERRE X LIBRARY STREET Later this month a very special evening in the relaxed and intimate environs of Library Street offers Dublin’s diners a fascinating insight into the kind of culinary magic Lewis Barker is currently weaving at awardwinning Cork restaurant Terre. Having earned his stripes in kitchens as far-flung as Australia and Singapore, the globe-trotting chef took up the Executive Chef role at the restaurant on the Castlemartyr Estate a year ago, successfully retaining its much coveted two Michelin stars in his first six months there. Having won his first Michelin star in Singapore at the tender age of 27, his much-anticipated April visit to Dublin sees the well-travelled Yorkshireman channelling all that international edge into something rooted firmly in Irish soil. He’ll be serving up a multi-sensory menu showcasing his signature precision and layered, flavour-led cooking via a tightly choreographed four-course menu. Limited tickets for the event which kicks off at 6.30pm on Monday April 27th, including a chance to go all in with a very nice wine pairing for an additional €79, are available via Eventbrite priced €150 + booking fee. @library_street 30 CANTINA LATINA New arrival Cantina Latina is now open on Curved Street where founder Marian is intent on bringing a full-on Latin flavour fiesta to the city.
