BARFLY OLD SCHOOL FARE AT THE STAG’S HEAD We’ve b
een ogling the Corned Beef Sandwich special at The Stag’s Head on Dame Lane for a little while now, and quite frankly, who can blame us? Enveloped in tasty Bretzel sourdough, the old school fav features Guinness braised Irish Corned Beef with sharp Dubliner Cheddar Cheese, Sauerkraut, Pickled Gherkins and Mustard, arriving at the table accompanied by their signature rustic fries and brined onions. Pair it with a pint of plain and you’ll understand why, in the midst of the somewhat interesting times we are currently blessed to inhabit, Dublin can sometimes still be heaven. The food menu at the landmark Victorian public house is served daily between 12pm and 5pm - perfect sustenance for the night ahead, whatever it may bring... @stags_head_dublin IN SUBURBIA HAPPY, HAPPY HOUR First birthday celebrations continue apace at The Sackville Lounge, with the launch of a regular Happy Hour at the glitzy younger sibling of Bar 1661. Turns out this particular happy hour is actually two hours long, but you won’t hear any complaints from us on that score. Pull up a pew at the stylish bar and bag yourself a delicious cocktail for the princely sum of a Pavarotti – a tenner in Barfly lingo – and in our view worth every cent. Check out those Belfast Coffees, sample something refreshing from the Martini Tree, or try out The Emperor’s Slipper – a heady mix of Sausage Tree Irish Vodka, Umeshu, Midori, Peach and Avocado. 3pm to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Walk-ins welcome. See ya there! @thesackvillelounge 34 Out in Kilmacud on the city’s southside, local hostelry O’Dwyer’s is continuing to keep things interesting on the drinks front by introducing a Gin, Whiskey and Rotational Tap of the month. At time of writing they were encouraging regulars to try a Beara Black Cask Blend Irish Whiskey or a drop of Inis Cléire Irish Gin, while their featured Rotational Tap offered a chance to swap out a pint of the black stuff for a gorgeous Connemara Black Irish Stout. The boozer also boasts its own neighbourhood eatery with Scott’s Restaurant currently serving up some first rate fare upstairs. In addition to Chilli Prawns and Risottos, the series of tempting specials on offer includes dishes such as Slow Cooked Monkfish, Prawns, Gnocchi, Cherry Tomatoes and Spinach with a white cream sauce. Add in a regular Tuesday night pub quiz, and one wonders why you’d ever bother leaving the ‘burb. @odwyersbarandkitchen @scottsrestaurantdublin
