o days in May, Dublin will transform into the international epicentre of street photography as it plays host to the third edition of the Dublin Street Photography Festival (DSPF). The programme includes New York Visionaries which will be accompanied by keynote talks and feature the work of three New York Photographers (Louis Stettner Estate, Meryl Meisler and Phil Penman). An important aspect of DSPF is the international open call competition which this year received thousands of entries from 49 countries around the globe. ALICE’S WONDERLAND Located in the Docklands, the hit multi-room playground Dream Point has announced a brand new Alice’s Wonderland immersive experience. The 21,000 sq ft event venue has undergone a complete makeover to be turned into a surreal reimagining of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Using modern technology, highlights include a new 20-minute 360° projection show, a glowing Cheshire Cat installation, an interactive Mad Tea Party table and oversized fantasy mushrooms. Alice’s Wonderland will run from March 23- August 31. dreampointexperience.ie BRAY JAZZ BROKENTALKERS ON THE ROAD Internationally renowned theatre company Brokentalkers take their critically acclaimed show BELLOW on the road around Ireland following a successful New York run and further US touring dates to come. This uniquely beautiful music/theatre highlights the importance of preserving Irish traditional music and mastering the craft. BELLOW tells the true story of famed Irish accordionist Danny O’Mahony, a man who has dedicated his life to preserving and sustaining traditional Irish music. Alongside Danny’s sublime live playing, Bellow features an original electronic composition by Valgeir Sigurðsson, new writing and contemporary dance. Project Arts Centre, April 21 – 25, brokentalkers.ie 6 Bray’s Mermaid Arts Centre will once more be the festival hub for this year’s Bray Jazz Festival, presenting day-time matinees on both Saturday and Sunday, and playing host to double-bill presentations each night. Highlights include Cincinnati born Fred Hersch, one of the most decorated and influential pianists in jazz, Havana-based pianist and one time Buena Vista Social Club member Roberto Fonseca and veteran American trumpeter Eddie Henderson, who will present a centenary tribute to the legendary trumpeter Miles Davis at the Mermaid on Sunday night, 3rd May. Other international guests set to play this year’s Bray International Jazz Festival include former UK jazz singer of the year Sara Dowling, in-demand young London trumpeter Poppy Daniels, Ukrainian harpist Alina Bzhezhinska’s Hip Harp Collective, Mongolian singer Enji, young Welsh star instrumentalist Cerys Hafana, French singer Leila Martial, and Cuban pianist and Blue Note records artist Harold Lopez Nussa.
