IDES Can someone please tell me how we’re approaching the halfway point of 2025? It really does feel like the fast-forward button has been engaged for the past few months. That said, we are entering the summer festival season, which is always eventful. The brilliant YINYANG returned last month with her first new music of 2025. ‘Parasite’ is perhaps the best track that the Belfast artist has brought us so far. It’s one of those songs that once you’ve heard it, it’s next to impossible to forget. The name Unique Freaks may not be familiar to you; it’s the band formerly known as THEE U.F.O. They released the single ‘Becoming Me, Becoming You!’ in March. The word is that they’re completing the follow-up to their 2024 album ‘Beaming A Moments Reflection’. By the time you’re reading this BASHT. will have covered some serious mileage on their European tour. Dubbed the ‘Bitter and Twisted’ tour, it coincided with the release of their latest EP of the same name. The single ‘Stockholm’ has been winning them fans of late. The Last Sound is our last stop for this month. Having brought us some exceptional music over the years, the focus here is the 2013 album ‘Rainbow Xplode’. Featuring the tracks ‘Nth Xploder’, the euphoric ‘Sun Forever’, and ‘Three Rock’, it sounds like the meeting of Caribou, My Bloody Valentine and Ladytron. Call it a lost gem or an underground classic, it’s probably both; it is also essential listening. 6
