Interview Words: Reuben Barter SEARCH RESULTS Sun
day morning, 10am in a café in Cow Lane might seem like an odd choice for a rock and roll interview but with the bells of Christchurch ringing in the background for the entire time it seems to be perfect to meet Jack and Fionn from one of Dublin’s most interesting and experimental bands, Search Results. In a wide ranging conversation that had everything from the regurgitative qualities of spaghetti to the psychological ability to block out from, Jack at least, any memory of what, by their standards are ‘bad’ shows, we get an insight into a hard working gigging band as they prepare to release their new single ‘Excruciating Heights’ before they go on tour. Coffee at the ready… 32 Where is the name from and why? Fionn: Jack brought the name, well I suppose the reason at the time was, we didn’t have any clear indication as to the sound of the what band would be, so we liked how that sort of leaves that open. Jack: We have been told on multiple occasions how bad the name is. Taxi drivers have commented how bad the name is, and I kind of agree but the open endedness of it I kinda like. What’s your favourite place to tour and do you enjoy touring? Fionn – Yeah, I love it [touring]. I still feel like we haven’t really that that much of it. The next tour will be our third, but I think for me my favourite place and I think I speak for Jack here, has been the Nederland’s . We also played in Antwerp last year, we didn’t get to see much of it, but the venue was cool. It looked like an office block but there were loads of creative spaces in it. Jack: The attitude to live music in Europe is way better than here or the UK. Like they will go to stuff they have never heard of. In Antwerp there wasn’t anyone at the gig that ever heard of us, they were all completely new to us and after the show we were talking to people asking them ‘why did you come?’ They said ‘ the venue gave us a newsletter’.
