RICS AT THE LEESON Our summer insta feed featured plenty of teasers for The Leeson, which finally opened its doors in recent weeks. Under wraps for the past two years, the construction awnings finally came down on the exterior of the historic pub formerly known as The Leeson Lounge to reveal some stunning interiors by Studio Delaney. Bellart Décor were responsible for the microcement finishes, and they set about creating “two completely different atmospheres through texture, colour and light.” Explaining the process in a post on their social media channels they said, “The main seating area was finished in a muted green micro-cement with a fine grain and soft satin sheen – subtle movement that changes throughout the day depending on the lighting. The WC areas were finished in a warm terracotta tone, with a medium-grain texture to introduce a slightly more rustic, tactile character.” So now you know. Sample the atmospherics before and after dark over a pint or two in the bar. @the.leeson The after-work pint is set for a serious upgrade this summer as The Guinness Storehouse hosts Thursday Night Social, a new experience in Dublin 8 geared towards local residents. They’re inviting Dubliners to swap their usual pub of choice for sunset views from Gravity Bar, with DJs, food pop-ups and a complimentary pint — all for €15. Tickets include access to the seven floors of the Home of Guinness, culminating with a creamy pint of Guinness (or Guinness 0.0) in hand 150 feet above the city as the sun goes down over Dublin. The soundtrack comes courtesy of some of Dublin’s best musical selectors, including George Feely, Alice Ugbah and SHREM, while down in the cobbled courtyard, a number of the city’s best food trucks will be dishing up the goods. Expect special menus from Hawker by Hang Dai alongside fresh seafood-inspired bites from Salty Buoy. Along the way, visitors can explore the newly opened Guinness Gallery featuring four murals from artist Fuchsia MacAree on ‘How to Pour Your Own Guinness in Six Steps’, featuring what she describes as ‘a fun to design door sized pint, and a gal waiting patiently’. As part of proceedings visitors also get to catch some live music in Arthur’s Bar and revisit some iconic Guinness advertising while soaking up the buzzing summer atmosphere. Pints, panoramic views and DJs… a lovely way to spend a social Thursday. guinnesstorehouse.ie CHEESY WONDERS A weekend of nostalgic snacking and serious craic is on the menu this month at The Bernard Shaw, where the Bodytonic crew are transforming the venue’s three floors and outdoor spaces into a full-on celebration of Ireland’s favourite snack. The crisp lover’s dream comes replete with a retro tuck shop packed with old-school classics, a special Crisp Fest food menu, blind tasting battles and the chance to prove your credentials in the DIY Crisp Sambo Making Competition. Whether you’re a salt and vinegar loyalist or a tasty cheese and onion devotee, the festival offers a chance to tog out for the ever-popular Jonnie Onion Ring Challenge, test your knowledge in a highly competitive crispy quiz, and savour all the drama of The Last Crumb Standing. Tickets include a pint and a packet of crisps on arrival, with entertainment from live bands and DJs. A gloriously silly event that helps make the end of summer taste just that little bit better.
