TORY - NOV 26TH Back to our shores after an amazing sold out show in The Grand Social a few months ago, the brilliant Bob Vylan are showcasing their new LP, The Price of Life and its another banger that encapsulates their DIY punk/rap sound to a T. Their unique style has found them embraced by rock and rap crowds alike and their independent nature has seen them start their own record label to release their music free from major label politics. SKY ATLAS - THE GRAND SOCIAL - NOV 26TH The Dublin based four piece bring their Winter tour to a close with a headliner in The Grand Social tonight. While the band use shoe gaze templates to create their sound, they increase their sonic remit by Louis Younge’s use of saxophone, violin and keyboards throughout while the rhythm section it keeps tight and beefy. THE BUG CLUB NOV 26H THE BUG CLUB NOV 265H MARY COUGHLAN PLAID MARY COUGHLAN - ARTHURS BLUES & JAZZ CLUB - NOV 26TH One should never pass up an opportunity to see Mary Coughlan in an intimate venue so tonight is your chance to witness one of our greats in action. Coughlans voice is a stunner and for tonight’s show she is backed by a four piece of superb musicians, including Dominic Mullen on drums, for a no frills dive into her choice material. THE BUG CLUB - WORK MANS CLUB - NOV 26TH Refreshing garage pop from a young Welsh trio that constantly brings a smile. The tunes are exuberant, joyful and insightful, rather like Lou Reed being tickled on a perfect day. Their new album Green Dream in F# is a delight that revels in sunny harmonies, Zappa like lead guitar riffage and the cool as fuck twin vocal attack of Sam and Tilly. The Bug Club is a tonic, the sound of youth enjoying itself. Do yourself a favour and go check them out. LISA O NEILL - NATIONAL CONCERT HALL - NOV 26TH Lisa O Neill is back on the road with a nationwide tour this winter. Her NCH show in Dublin is aptly titled “Tones that are tender and Tones that are gruff”. And we can expect to hear such tones at a Lisa O Neill show. We can also expect a quality performance from a national treasure. Special guests include Seamas Fogarty, Ruth O’Mahony Brady & Ku. PLAID - WHELANS - NOV 26TH The much-loved electronic duo return to showcase their new album Feorm Farlorx on Warp (their 11th). All based around A.I., the 10 tracks have the signature beats that have become synonymous with the duo’s tech-driven sounds for nearly three decades. At the record’s core is the band’s embarkation on their biggest tour yet, which includes an intergalactic date at the festival Feorm on the planet Falorx. Sounds like a lot of fun and is of course unmissable for fans of top notch electronic music. CLIPPING NOV 30TH MICHAEL HEAD & THE RED ELASTIC BAND - WHELANS - NOV 30TH Debut Irish gig for the former Pale Fountains, The Strands and Shack frontman. Head is quietly regarded as one of the UKs best songwriters of the last 4 decades (check out The Pale Fountains Pacific Street or Shacks HMS Fable for the incontrovertible evidence) and arrives promoting his rather excellent new album Dear Scott. If you love Love and Aztec Camera this one’s for you. CLIPPING - OPIUM ROOMS - NOV 30TH Experimental Hip Hop group Clipping play Opium Rooms on November 30th. Political, noisy, abstract and even occasionally groovy, Clipping are an endlessly inventive and challenging act. Take one step away from the abrasive, thrashing assault of Death Grips and move an inch towards Shabazz Palace and you’ll find yourself in the Clipping arena. Heavy industrial instrumentals and crystal clear cryptic vocals. SAMPLE ANSWER PAGE 5
