g a brief six-month sojourn and a classy new revamp, the lights are on and the doors are open again at The Queens in Dalkey. The interlude also saw the iconic old lady changing hands, with new owners Orla and Paddy Doherty already making their mark, in keeping with the track record for great hospitality that they’ve long since established at The Eagle in Glasthule and McGrory’s in Culdaff, Inishowen. Now open seven days a week, the much loved South County Dublin institution is walk-ins only, while fur babies can expect a warm welcome on the dog friendly terraces. The restaurant too is up and running, with a variety of menus designed to reflect seasonal Irish produce, alongside a full bar offering featuring everything from pints of plain to craft beers, wines, and a delicious selection of cocktails. As new General Manager Kamila Kleszcz put it; “This is more than just a reopening, it’s a celebration of history, community, and the vibrant future we see for Dalkey.” We’ll drink to that! @the_queens_dalkey This month sees a new addition to the city’s leisure and pleasure landscape with the arrival of The Pitch Whiskey Experience, an immersive new venture that pairs a state-of-the-art golf simulator with exclusive whiskeys from distilleries located near some of the world’s most iconic courses. Participants get to tee off and travel the globe, one dram at a time, guided by a custom book-style scorecard featuring sixteen specially curated course-and-whiskey pairings. Spanning Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Japan, Australia and the U.S., think Bushmills paired with Portrush, Killowen with Royal County Down Golf Club, and 117° West with Pebble Beach. Hang on to the booklet afterwards for a return visit to continue the tasting journey and finish those eighteen holes. The spirited home of comedy in Dublin is now fostering the talents of a new generation courtesy of The Underground Comedy Club, a lively initiative featuring an eclectic mix of newcomers, seasoned pros trying out new material, and visiting acts dropping in to take the pulse of the sagacious Dublin audience. Hosted by comedians Kevin Larney and Jason Brennan, you’ll find it in the basement of the International on Saturday evenings. Doors 8.30pm, Show 9pm. Admission €10.
