This is why the company has opted to disconnect its properties from the district heating system. The aim is to take control of the energy supply – and costs. Since 2012, when Wallfast and its subsidiary Hässelby Hem installed geothermal heating at their properties in Hässelby in Stockholm, heating and hot water have been supplied by a mix of district, geothermal and exhaust air heating. Going forward, however, this supply will come exclusively from geothermal heating and heat pumps. “It’s been relatively easy to expand our geothermal heating because the foundation was already there. This will lead to financial gains, as we now can benefit from all the energy-saving measures we’ve installed,” says Wallfast Project Manager Mats Ottran, adding that the fixed fees from the district heating had so far cancelled out much Mats Ottran Project Manager, Wallfast of this. “Switching to geothermal heating, we’ll also be able to use our heat pumps more efficiently, ultimately allowing us to buy less energy.
