Strong Desires Some avoid it, others love it, no one is unaffected by it: fat is something we all have a relationship with. But what exactly makes it such a charged topic? In Fat: A Story of Taste, Horror and Strong Desire, cultural journalist and author Jenny Damberg examines the various identities of fat and its ability to evoke strong emotions. She visits the remains of the Whitechapel Monster – the 130 tonne subterranean fatberg from London’s sewers that horribly fascinated the whole world when it was discovered in the autumn of 2017, and she also travels to the only lard museum in the world, in the Ukrainian city of Lviv. Writing in a way that is both entertaining and amazingly educational, she gets to the bottom of a range of issues, such as why men and women are expected to conduct themselves differently in relation to fatty food.
