New Swedish Books 30 Oh Lunar Street Viktoria Jäd
erling moves with ease across different subjects in her short stories – taking in hunting, the countryside, city life, hospitals and home environments. Her people are lost, searching – to them, love doesn’t come easily, there are no hastily arranged or chance encounters, and the relationships between men and women are complicated. Oh Lunar Street is almost genre crossing, poetic in its language, in the structure of some of the short stories, and in the tight composition with thematic variations. The short stories seem to begin and end mid-action, and the reader is offered slices of life coloured by grief and unbridled joy. This sharpens the reader’s gaze, emphasising the intensity of the stories and the focus on details, carrying the narrative like a film of close-ups.
