ire suppression fluid and receives new certification for the mining industry Fogmaker International AB develops, manufactures, and markets fire suppression systems using water-based mist under high pressure for vehicles and machinery. The company has now received FM 5970 certification for its fire suppression system: an important certification within the mining industry. Along with certifications such as SPCR 197 and 199, AS 5062:2016, and UL approval, Fogmaker’s fire suppression system has now become the most tested and certified in the world. Working with machinery and explosives up to one kilometer underground presents high demands for fire protection. Enclosed spaces create challenges for evacuation as well as rescue operations. – The machines and equipment are heavier, have more power, and consume more energy than similar equipment at other workplaces. If a fire were to break out, it could have very serious consequences for both personnel and machines, says Mario Flores, Key Account Manager and responsible for Fogmaker’s mining segment. A fire in a mining environment therefore requires particularly powerful fire suppression measures, which Fogmaker’s system provides. In addition to customers in Sweden, it is also used in mines in South Africa, Australia, Chile, and Finland. – 80 percent of all fires in mining environments are caused by faults in some electrical component. This generates heat, which, when combined with a leaking fuel line or a broken hydraulic hose, can lead to a rapid and catastrophic chain of events, says Mario Flores. When the Fogmaker system detects a fire, for example on a mining dump truck, it releases a water-based mist under high pressure. As the mist turns into steam, it displaces oxygen from
