Swedish Books for Young Readers 18 Eva Lindström
Eva Lindström is one of Sweden’s most accomplished and celebrated picture book makers who has brought the Swedish picture book to a higher artistic level. With a unique and distinct style she often blends her quirky sense of humour with a touch of darkness and her writing is sparse and laconic. Her subject matter is original, and her stories sometimes bizarre, usually comical, at times melancholic, but almost always full of existential overtones. She has inspired and influenced a new generation of illustrators in Sweden and is also highly admired internationally. With charming and individual stories, Lindström confirms her position as a unique creator of picture books again and again. She has won and been nominated to numerous awards both in Sweden and internationally - twelve nominations in total for the August Prize, a unique achievement, and four to the HC Andersen Award. Come Home Laila, picture book, 2018, Alfabeta Rights: Alfabeta Laila has left home. At home they miss her and entice her with everything she will get if she just comes home again! Everyone Leaves, picture book, 2015, Alfabeta Rights: Alfabeta When everyone leaves Frank is alone. As usual. So he goes home and makes marmalade, but not any kind of marmalade. It is made from his tears. Then he invites the others for tea and toast. But do they all become friends – or not? A melancholic and unusual book about belonging to a group or not. My Dog Mouse, picture book, 2016, Lilla Piratförlaget Rights: Lilla Piratförlaget A fun and beloving story about the love to an old and fat dog. For anyone who knows what it is to love an old, slow dog, with ears as thin as pancakes. Give Us Back Our Hats!, picture book, 2009, Alfabeta Rights: Alfabeta Mia, Marko, Tom and Sofi all have new woolly hats. But at a birthday party the hats disappear during a magic trick. A few days later someone gets stuck in the lift in their building. It’s the magician returning the hats! A typical Lindström story about something that is lost. An adventure in a small format.
