Art matters It’s somewhat hard to quantify the importance of exhibited art for a city like Stockholm. And I’m sure the significance differs depending on if you’re seeing a lot of local art from a vibrant art scene that is energising the city or if we’re mainly just talking historic art pieces by international artists. But in any case, good art on display makes a city more attractive. Stockholm has about 70 museums and a vital and diverse gallery scene, and while Stockholmers, and the city itself, is normally very safe, Stockholm’s art scene is something else, it’s quite adventurous. And it’s not that the whole world acknowledges Stockholm as some type of art capital (Berlin or New York it certainly isn’t), but Stockholmers are very particular about their design and art, and are fluent in striking visuals. In this issue we have highlighted both the longawaited return of Nationalmuseum plus The Moderna Exhibition 2018 at Moderna Museet. Two of the main institutions on the Stockholm art scene. And lastly, some might ponder what art really is. Merriam-Webster gives us the answer. It’s “something that is created with imagination and skill and that is beautiful or that expresses important ideas or feelings”. So with that, we can conclude that this issue of Totally Stockholm can be classified as a work of art. It’s full of both feelings and important ideas.
