any CUAR GIGS After weeks of great, refreshing shows, the first iteration of the Jazz in Whelan’s gig series comes to a close on December 13th, as they cap off their first run with A Night of Ella Fitzgerald Wishing You a Swinging Christmas. IMC 30/30 artist Aleka Potinga will lead the performance on the night, accompanied by her band of fellow 30/30 artist Chris Guilfoyle on guitar, along with Aidan Gray and Michael McCarthy on bass and drums. The world-renowned jazz singer Honor Heffernan brings her veteran skills to Arthurs Blues & Jazz Club on December 17th. She’ll be joined by the wonderful Carole Nelson Trio, with Nelson on piano, Cormac O Brien on bass and Dominic Mullen on drums. As always, Arthur’s has more than one top jazz show to catch this month! The Chris Guilfoyle Octet bring their big 8-piece west coast jazz sounds to the venue on December 22nd. Top performers like IMC’s 30/30 artist Scott Flanigan, Yuzuha O’Halloran, Colm O’Hara and more join Chris to make As 2022 comes to a close, IMC is looking ahead at an exciting calendar in the New Year. Brazilian jazz artist Adriano Trindade brings his European tour The Workman’s Club on December 18th. Adriano and his band’s free Brazilian jazz has been a delight for audiences around the globe and we’re really looking forward to their samba and improvised rhythms coming to Dublin this month. Our friends at Dublin Jazz Co-op will be posting their most up-to-date listings on their social media channels, so be sure to give them a follow to hear the latest about their musician-led concert programmes. LATEST RELEASES Decorated composer and pianist Cormac McCarthy has just released his brand new solo piano album On The Other Hand. PAGE 42 Cormac’s undeniable talent coupled with his inventive use of the piano make for a highly enjoyable album which can be downloaded from Bandcamp. Neil O Lochlainn and his traditional and improvisatory group Cuar have just released their second album Umhaill, which has already received a four-star review from The Irish Times. Watch out for more live dates from Cuar, as Neil marries his creative talents with wonderful performers Ultan O’Brien and Sam Comerford on viola and saxophone.
