It's open air gig time again and, as long as the weather holds up, we are guaranteed another Summer of amazing gigs. From Collins Barracks to The Iveagh Gardens, Malahide Castle to St Annes Park, The Royal Hospital Kilmainham to Trinity College we are blessed to have our great promoters out there putting on monumental shows with some really great cutting edge acts. It wasn't always so, in fact 20 years ago there were virtually no open air concert events in Dublin, a crazy stat. We would love the Larks In The Parks to return (for those of you born in the last 30 years or so they were free admission gigs that were held in the bandstands of The Phoenix Park, St Annes and Blackrock Park) but in the meantime enjoy the outdoor sounds. The human voice is the most glorious of instruments and when four amazing singers come together to create a sound as heavenly as Landless have managed on their latest album L ú ireach, it deserves to be celebrated and marked. In our last issue, our reviewer Adhamh O’Caoimh wrote that “The open intonations of ‘Newry Highway’ man, and the song's spectral evolution had me speechless. Sitting here with my hands in my lap, rendered mute and mesmerised”. Formed in 2013 and based in Dublin and Belfast, the female four piece sing traditional songs from across the globe in four-part harmony to devastating effect. They were part of the community that started up the now iconic trad singing session in The Cobblestone, The Night Before Larry Got Stretched, a night (and scene) which has seen many of the current crop of Irish trad and folk come through its doors on the way to international acclaim. L ú ireach is released on June 7th and they officially launch the album with an intimate show in The Unitarian Church on St Stephens Green on June 21st. S E V A R N Ä E M N K T
